“Ella pugalum iraivanukke” ………

How long can we keep a treasure hidden ? It is bound to come out some day and today was it…. even being born in India has not stopped him from reaching the pinnacle which every musician in the world dreams for. I am proud of what he has done to us, Indians and wish him the very best.

“Ella pugalum iraivanukke” – You have to be a Tamilian to know how it feels like hearing these words….and these words will remain etched in the my mind……. forever.

Hmm…. Its been a year now that this blog has been around and now that is a reason to celebrate !!!!!!!!

Not bad for it has had 3877 hits in a year. Though this is miniscule compared to what an average blog gets, for me, more than 10 hits a day, is indeed an achievement. :-)

Thank you for your time and wishing you all a wonderful time ahead !!!!!!!

Front facet of the Padmashri award

What does it mean to be awarded one of the prestigious recognition by a government ? It means that the government recognises the ‘role model’ citizens and wants others to emulate them. It is an honour for a few thousand among the billion people who have been felicitated for their distinguished service in the fields of art, education, literature, sports and other domains. This year’s list of Padmashree awardees comes as a shocker with certain names.

If olympic medal winners like Vijendar kumar and Sushil kumar do not deserve Padma shri awards, does Akshay or Aishwarya Rai deserve one ? If there was some opportunity to get people to be interested in sports other than cricket, this was the one. By awarding the cricketing heroes and ignoring others, even the government has sent wrong signal to the sporting community.  The apathy with which national heroes have been overlooked is shocking.

It raises just one question – Are these awards relevant anymore ?
